Peat: A Comprehensive Excursion for Members of the Volyn Regional Ecological and Naturalist Center

The Director of ME “Volynpryrodresurs,” Anatolii Kapustiuk, presented the entire peat extraction process and explained the specifics of raw material processing.
For members of the Volyn Regional Ecology and Nature Center of the Volyn Regional Council, a comprehensive excursion was organized to showcase the fascinating process of peat extraction and peat briquette production.
Anatolii Kapustiuk, Director of ME “Volynpryrodresurs,” guided participants through the full sequence of operations – from peat extraction in the fields to its transformation into a finished product: peat briquettes. The group visited the deposit site as well as the Manevychi Peat Briquette Plant, located in the village of Prylisne, Kamin-Kashyrskyi district, Volyn region.
The excursion aimed not only to demonstrate the technical side of production, but also to highlight the value of peat as a resource, its historical importance, and modern processing methods. Special attention was given to the unique properties of peat, its role in the past, and current approaches to its processing and use, including enterprise mechanization.
The event carried special significance for internally displaced persons from eastern regions of Ukraine, who were among the participants. For many of the students, it was the first opportunity to see the extraction and processing of peat, as well as to learn about land reclamation – a key element of an environmentally and socially responsible approach to natural resource management.
“We believe that the knowledge and impressions gained during this excursion will serve as a strong foundation for shaping in young people a conscious attitude toward nature and an understanding of the value of natural resources in the future. We sincerely thank everyone involved in organizing and conducting this event, and especially our young guests for their curiosity and eagerness to learn more about environmentally responsible production and Ukraine’s path to energy independence. ME ‘Volynpryrodresurs’ is committed to continuing this work by educating youth about peat extraction processes in Volyn.”
