MINING-TECHNICAL AND BIOLOGICAL RECLAMATION
Mining minerals is a complex, multi-stage process involving technical, environmental, economic and social aspects. The entire extraction process is associated with significant environmental challenges; therefore, technologies and methods aimed at minimising the negative impact on the environment and natural resources must be employed at each stage.
Before extraction begins, ME Volynpryrodresurs (VPR) conducts a comprehensive geological survey to determine the locations of useful deposits. This involves a geological-economic assessment of the area, the preparation of detailed geological-resource maps, and an evaluation of amber and peat reserves. Next, plans are developed and optimal technologies for mineral exploitation are implemented, which may include the use of heavy machinery, drilling and other processes.
Once extraction is complete, the recultivation process must be carried out. Mining-technical and biological reclamation are necessary for worked-out territories.
The first step in this process is mining-technical reclamation, whereby the layers of soil are returned in the order of their original deposition, compacted and restored to their original state. Soon after this, areas that have undergone technical reclamation are transferred to forestry for biological reclamation, i.e. tree planting. Forestry then develops a plan for biological reclamation, including a planting plan, species selection, root systems, and so on.
Thus, once extraction operations are complete, the entire area is mechanically planted.
