The Process of Establishing the Ukrainian Peat Association (UPA) Has Begun: ME Volynpryrodresurs Has Developed a Logo and Initiated the Official Procedure

Розпочато процес створення Української Торфової Асоціації (УТА): КП «Волиньприродресурс» розробило логотип та розпочало офіційну процедуру

One of the key outcomes of the Ukrainian delegation’s participation in the International Peat Forum in Riga was the decision by Ukrainian enterprises attending the event to establish the Ukrainian Peat Association (UPA). Considering Ukraine’s significant peat reserves and the prospects for their development to support the diversification of the country’s energy sector, there is a growing need for a specialised organisation formed by operating enterprises that can effectively represent the interests of the sector at both national and international levels.

Anatolii Kapustiuk, Director of ME Volynpryrodresurs, commented:

"The new structure requires the consolidation of efforts among specialised enterprises and will represent the interests of the industry in order to develop a unified professional position in cooperation with legislators, central government authorities, relevant ministries and international partners. As a preliminary announcement, the Ukrainian Peat Association (UPA) will be registered in the Volyn region."

Representatives of Ukraine, including ME Volynpryrodresurs and other forum participants who together account for approximately 80% of the peat extraction market, initiated the creation of the association.

The First Official Step – Appeal to the Volyn Regional Council

On 17 November 2025, ME Volynpryrodresurs sent an official letter addressed to the Chairman of the Volyn Regional Council, Hryhorii Nedopad. In the document, the enterprise requested support for the initiative to establish the Ukrainian Peat Association and asked for consent to become one of its founding members.

Volyn – An Industry Leader and Initiating Region

For the Volyn region, participation in the creation of the association is of strategic importance. The region possesses some of the largest peat reserves in Ukraine and has significant potential for the development of enterprises involved in the extraction, processing and utilisation of peat.

The status of a co-founder of a nationwide industry association will allow the Volyn region to gain additional influence in shaping national sectoral policy, facilitate the attraction of investment and strengthen its position among the country’s industrial regions.
