VPR: Responsible Approach to Extraction and Environmental Protection

КП «Волиньприродресурс»: відповідальний підхід до видобутку та охорони довкілля

ME “Volynpryrodresurs” is an enterprise created for the legal extraction of amber in the Volyn region. This municipal enterprise also specializes in peat extraction and covers areas in the Kamin-Kashirsk, Lutsk, and Kovel districts.

In terms of area for extraction, “VPR” is the largest in Ukraine, as its sites extend over more than 600 square kilometers. ME “Volynpryrodresurs” pays special attention to analyzing the impact of its activities on the environment and natural surroundings, followed by the restoration of worked-out areas.

Preservation of Natural Resources

One of the main priorities of the company is the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity in the areas where amber and peat extraction takes place. The municipal enterprise “Volynpryrodresurs” takes measures to minimize the impact of its activities on ecosystems and natural habitats.

Monitoring and Control Over Compliance with Environmental Standards

ME “Volynpryrodresurs” conducts continuous monitoring of the environmental state and the impact of its activities on the natural environment. The enterprise implements strict control over compliance with environmental standards and requirements for nature protection.

To analyze the potential impact of its activities on the surrounding environment, the enterprise has engaged scientists from Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. A memorandum has been signed with the university, and this collaboration has been in effect for three years. The scientists from VNU study not only peat bogs and amber extraction sites but also adjacent territories. Such observations are carried out throughout the entire growing season, with at least 3-4 field trips conducted for each object: these include field studies, water analysis, radiation levels, as well as flora and fauna assessments.

Collaboration with Territorial Communities and Authorities

VPR actively collaborates with territorial communities and authorities to ensure sustainable development and environmental protection. The company takes into account the opinions of local residents and implements measures aimed at conserving natural resources.

All projects for future peat and amber extraction sites underwent a public consultation process. This allowed residents of the settlements where extraction was planned to receive comprehensive answers regarding these activities. Such public meetings are initiated and organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Volyn Regional Military Administration.

VPR serves as an example of a responsible company that strives to ensure sustainable use of natural resources and environmental preservation for future generations. Its measures and initiatives are aimed at protecting nature and promoting regional development. VPR demonstrates that amber extraction can be carried out in harmony with nature and the environment, supporting the region’s economic development without harming the surrounding environment.
