Head of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine Roman Opimakh Visited ME “Volynpryrodresurs”

During a working visit to Volyn, the head of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine (Derzhheonadra), Roman Opimakh, became acquainted with the process of amber extraction, its processing and enrichment, as well as assessed a collection of unique finds.
First and foremost, the head of the Derzhheonadra was introduced to the process of civilized amber extraction. On the land plot where the ME “Volynpryrodresurs” (VPR) is conducting operations, there was what is known as a Klondike.
“The territory was in terrible condition, as illegal diggers had damaged tree roots, which were just lying on the ground. Amber was extracted here using shovels; motor pumps were not used due to a lack of water. Therefore, they dug trenches and made reinforcements. Even now at a depth of 6 meters, we find jackets, mobile phones, and shovels,” said Anatolii Kapustiuk, director of ME “Volynpryrodresurs.”
He noted that during a day of work “in the field,” the employees of the enterprise extract between 40 to 60 kg of amber. Later, it is transported to the factory, where the stones are cleaned of dirt and their fractionality is determined.
The head of the regional council, Hryhorii Nedopad, emphasized that after the extraction of solar stone is completed in the area, the workers of the communal enterprise will carry out reclamation: they will level and compact the land, return the fertile topsoil to its place, and plant a new forest.
The head of the Derzhheonadra, Roman Opimakh, had the opportunity not only to see unique samples of amber, including a stone named “Heart of Volyn,” but also to confirm that the experience of the Volyn communal enterprise could serve as a model for others.
“Work of ‘VPR’ is a great example of how everything can happen transparently – both extraction and purchase of amber,” said Roman Opimakh. “I am impressed by how this enterprise is developing, as there will be not only extraction but also processing and manufacturing of products.”
